Marina Rustow

I am a social historian of the medieval Middle East, and I work with a relatively neglected type of source: medieval documents, especially sources from the Cairo Geniza, a cache of more than 300,000 folio pages preserved in an Egyptian synagogue. I also work with some Arabic papyri and paper documents. Most of my research has centered on Egypt and Syria from the tenth century to the fifteenth, with occasional forays into Europe and modernity, both strange preserves into which I rarely venture unchaperoned. My work has lately centered around a set of related questions: what makes social and religious groups cohere and fragment; how people demanded justice of the state and facilitated or resisted its extraction of resources; how written documents structured the exercise of power and the creation and maintenance of social bonds; and how reconstructing the concrete details of medieval life demand of the historian a use of the imagination that is rigorous rather than fanciful.

Rodgers & Hammerstein

Did you know? In SOUTH PACIFIC, Joe Cable sings "Younger Than Springtime"" to Liat, his partner in an unexpected romance. Rodgers & Hammerstein made no fewer than three prior attempts at writing this number. The third try, ""Suddenly Lucky,"" contained the lyrics ""Suddenly lucky / Suddenly to be together, / Suddenly owning / Happiness no gold can buy. "" Although cut from SOUTH PACIFIC, Richard Rodgers was able to rescue the melody for THE KING AND I, where it became the iconic song ""Getting to Know You. """Did you know? The origins of OKLAHOMA! go back to poet, playwright and Oklahoma native Lynn Riggs (1899-1954).

Augustine of Hippo

Architect of the Middle Ages "Mankind is divided into two sorts: such as live according to man, and such as live according to God. These we call the two cities… The Heavenly City outshines Rome. There, instead of victory, is truth" Barbarians surged into the empire, threatening the Roman way of life as never before. The Christian church also faced attack from internal heretics. The potential destruction of culture, civilization, and the church was more than an occasional nightmare—it was perceived as an immediate threat. And Augustine answered with such wisdom, his responses are still considered by some to be the church's most important writings after the Bible.

Dalton Trumbo

Trumbo the film, I do not judge the fine actors nor their performance in this make-believe film, but I take exception that there is value or a substantive message learned from untold truth, innuendo and the manipulation of facts by the producers and director of this film. Aside from the political debate, the movie Trumbo misrepresents the avarice conniving men that Trumbo and the King Bros were. Trumbo and the King Bros were all about the money and getting attention to that end. Trumbo was not a hero, he was a grandstander who mislead and toyed with the media about many things and the most important among them, to me, was his plagiarism of my father’s work.

Hello friend,  I appreciate you taking the time to read about the Ministry of Music that The Lord has blessed us with.  After squandering many years living in the World and nearly destroying my life with drugs and alcohol, something wonderful happened in my life. . . . or better yet SOMEONE wonderful happened to GIVE me life. . . His name is Jesus! I gave my life to Christ on a Monday night during a revival meeting in Jacksonville, Florida. That night was February 6th, 1989.  Since that night many things have happened!  Almost immediately God put me into a Ministry of Music!  Never thought I would be doing what I've been doing for the last 25 years but now I can't imagine myself doing anything else! There have been some valleys.

Danica--Crossing the Line

Introduction Trust thy dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity. -- Kahlil GibranThe dreams were always the same. I was running as fast as I could, trying to escape the wolves that were chasing me. I ran and ran and ran, sweat pouring from my forehead, dripping into my eyes, stinging them as if a thousand bees had attacked me, leaving me blind. And still, I ran. I ran as fast as I could, trying to escape, but then I became stuck, unable to move. My mouth was open, as if I were yelling, but silence emerged. I was unable to scream, to yell for help.
