Biography

Songwriters Hall of FameInducted 1987 | BMI Writer

Carole King was born Carole Klein to Jewish parents in Brooklyn, New York on February 9, 1942. She was a proficient pianist by the age of four, and a prolific songwriter by her early teens. As a teenager, she recorded demos, sang backup, helped arrange recording sessions, and wrote and recorded a few singles that went nowhere. While a student at Queens College, she met her future writing partner and husband, Gerry Goffin. King’s 1960 single "Oh! Neil," which she recorded, was a riposte to her friend Neil Sedaka’s song "Oh! Carol. " It was not a hit, but it impressed Don Kirshner, who signed the King/Goffin team to his Aldon Music Empire.

Carol Dweck:The Woman Behind The Motivational Mindset Breakthrough

Home »Experts & Scientists » Carol Dweck: The Woman Behind The Motivational Mindset Breakthrough Sharing is caring. What is the determining factor that leads people to become successful? Is it merely hard work or being intellectually superior or talented in certain areas? According to world-renowned author and Professor Carol Dweck, it has more to do with the individual’s mindset or beliefs about themselves, not about how smart they are or how hard working someone is. Of course working hard is a prerequisite to success, but only to a point. However, if your self-belief or theory about yourself is filled with negativity or an idea that says you cannot do something because you are not ‘smart’ enough, no amount of ‘hard work’ is going to bring you into success in life.
